Tara Sonenshine

Former U.S. Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs

Tara Sonenshine now is a Distinguished Fellow at George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs.

Previously, she served as U.S. Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, during Hillary Clinton’s tenure.

Her earlier government service includes service as Transition Director and Director of Foreign Policy Planning at the National Security Council (1997) and Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Communications at the White House National Security Council (1994).

She has also served as Executive Vice President for the United States Institute of Peace (2009-2012) as well as a strategic planning and media consultant to World Learning, International Crisis Group and the American Academy of Diplomacy.

Tara Sonenshine was also the Editorial Producer for the “Nightline” program at ABC News.

She received her BA in Political Science from Tufts University in 1981.
