Sechaba Nkosi

Sechaba Nkosi has traveled Africa extensively as a correspondent for numerous publications such as The Guardian through its syndication with the Mail & Guardian. He covered upheavals from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Zimbabwe and Lesotho. In 1998, Mr. Nkosi was one of the authoritative voices on Lesotho commentating on international news networks such as the BBC and Reuters.

Mr. Nkosi finished his secondary education at Lethukuthula High where he got drawn into the world of student politics. He became the first secretary of the Congress of South African Students (Cosas) in Katlehong in 1984, and the president of the local Student Representative Committees.

By then, Lethukuthula had become the center of student resistance against apartheid in the then Pretoria-Witwatersrand-Vaal (PWV) area, or “the parliament of students” as the Truth and Reconciliation Committee observed in its findings. After numerous spells in detention, Mr. Nkosi was eventually forced to leave the country to pursue his journalism training in Zimbabwe and Canada. On his return, he enrolled for a journalism course at Rhodes University and the East Cape News Agency.

Besides working for some of the country’s top publications such as the Sunday Times and the Mail & Guardian, Mr. Nkosi was a founding member of the Sunday World newspaper. He is currently the deputy editor of Business Report, the country’s biggest financial daily.
