Kishore Mahbubani

Dean and Professor in the Practice of Public Policy, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore

Kishore Mahbubani is Dean and Professor in the Practice of Public Policy at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy of the National University of Singapore.

He was with the Singapore Foreign Service for 33 years (1971-2004), where he had postings in Cambodia, Malaysia, Washington D.C. and New York (where he served two postings as Singapore’s Ambassador to the UN and as President of the UN Security Council, in January 2001 and May 2002). He was Permanent Secretary at the Singapore Foreign Ministry from 1993 to 1998.

He has been a fellow at Harvard University’s Center for International Affairs and was a recipient of the Foreign Policy Association Medal in 2004.

Mr. Mahbubani is the author of Can Asians Think? (Marshall Cavendish, 4th ed., 2010), Beyond The Age of Innocence: Rebuilding Trust Between America and the World (PublicAffairs, 2008), and The New Asian Hemisphere: The Irresistible Shift of Global Power to the East (PublicAffairs, 2008). His latest book is The Great Convergence: Asia, the West, and the Logic of One World (PublicAffairs, 2013).

Mr. Mahbubani earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy at the University of Singapore. He earned a Master’s degree in philosophy at Dalhousie University, Canada.
