Edward Gresser

Director of GlobalWorks Foundation’s Progressive Economy Project

Ed Gresser joined the GlobalWorks Foundation as Director of the Progressive Economy project in February 2011.

Mr. Gresser has conducted path-breaking research on cross-border data flow and Internet trade, the American tariff system and its effects on low-income American families and poorer nations, trade relations with the Muslim world, Asian economic integration and other topics.

Before joining the GlobalWorks Foundation in February 2011, Mr. Gresser served as Director of the Trade and Global Markets program and as interim President of the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC), and as Trade and Global Markets Director for the Progressive Policy Institute.

During the second Clinton term, he served as Policy Advisor to U.S. Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky.

Early in his career, Mr. Gresser served as Legislative Assistant and then Policy Director for Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), with responsibility for trade and foreign policy issues.

His first book, “Freedom from Want: American Liberalism and the Global Economy,” was published in 2007. He also created ProgressiveEconomy’s widely praised “Trade Fact of the Week” electronic information service.

Mr. Gresser holds an M.A. from Columbia University along with a certificate from Columbia’s Averell Harriman Institute, and a B.A. with Distinction in Political Science from Stanford University.
